You can build this awesome simple noise making circuit

As usual there will be a short presentation on the Atari Punk Console (APC) and how to build it. This will include a special demonstration of a living art peice which incorporates the APC created by Boises own BoCoLab.

Then we will solder together the kits. The kits include all the parts necessary except for an enclosure (optional) which is explained below.

Once the kits are built we will plug them all together to create a massive APC orchestra. This will be filmed and put on YouTube.com.

At the end there will be a group discussion about possible modifications and uses of the APC.

Lots of Help will be Provided

Even if you've never touched iron to solder you can build the Atari Punk Console. Several expert solders will be at hand to assist you and there will be some spare parts in case of accidents.

What exactly is the APC?

In short, the Atari Punk Console or APC is a simple electronic circuit which makes interesting old-school sounding electronic noises. The circuit is a square wave oscillator which makes some sounds very much like the sounds of the very retro Atari video game console.

But don't take our word for it check out these links:

Special Features of Our APC Kit

Our APC kit already includes a couple of modifications that make it special.

  • Photo resistors give Theremin like control
  • Additional jack allows interconnection of APC
  • 6' audio cable for orchestra connection

The photo resistor allows you to use light to control your APC. Simply waving your hand over the APC can change its sound. The interconnect jack allows you to connect your APC to someone else's producing totally new sounds. The 6' audio cable will allow us to connect all the APCs together to create a massive electronic orchestra.

The Enclosure

The kits include all the parts necessary except for an enclosure. This is where you can be creative. So bring a plastic toy or wooden box. For example, a plastic Buddha would be perfect. Your enclosure should be large enough to hold a small circuit board (approximately 2"x3%quot;) and a 9v battery. It should also have room somewhere on the surface for 5 5/8" holes for the potentiometers, power button, and audio jacks. Looking at the pictures in the links above will give you some ideas.

Tickets

More payment options are in the works. For now call Joseph at 208.629.4884 to reserve your APC kit. You can also buy tickets at the December 8th, BoCon event. $20 advanced payment is necessary so we can purchase the kits in bulk and provide them so cheaply.

What to Bring

  • An enclosure (see above)
  • Your prepaid ticket
  • Tools if you have them: soldering irons, screw drivers, drills, bits.

If you've got extra tools and/or soldering skills please plan to help others.
